In the modern corporate landscape, true ethical governance is rarely passive. It requires constant enforcement, active employee engagement, and an unwavering commitment from executive leadership.
International Paper Company has just proven the longevity of its corporate integrity by achieving a historic milestone: earning a spot on Ethisphere’s 2026 World's Most Ethical Companies list. This marks the company’s 20th consecutive year receiving the designation.
This clean-sweep history cements International Paper as one of only six charter organizations globally to make the list every single year since the award was established in 2007. Furthermore, they stand alone as the singular honoree recognized within the Forestry, Packaging & Paper category. By proving that sustainable practices and uncompromising ethical standards can scale globally, International Paper has provided a powerful blueprint for corporate accountability.
This milestone recognition arrives at a pivotal moment for the organization. Maintaining a flawless ethical rating is challenging during standard operations, but doing so during massive structural shifts is heavily prized by Ethisphere's rigorous Ethics Quotient guidelines.
Unresolved workplace conflict costs U.S. businesses billions in lost productivity and damages employee well-being and brand reputation. Discover how the Peace Seal helps businesses resolve disputes through neutral mediation, strengthen workplace culture, and build trust through ethical practices and accountability.

Medtronic stands out in the highly regulated healthcare products category for its exceptional business integrity, robust governance, and global compliance programs. Recognizing this commitment to transparency and ethical operations, Pledge4Peace has officially nominated Medtronic for the prestigious 2026 Peace Seal. This honor celebrates companies that prioritize human dignity, protect their employees, and operate with absolute integrity on a global scale.
As outlined in recent investor relations updates, International Paper is currently navigating a historic corporate transformation. The company has announced plans to separate into two independent, publicly traded regional companies: one focused on North America and another focused on Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Both distinct entities will incorporate legacy International Paper assets alongside recently acquired DS Smith operations.
Navigating the complexities of acquisitions, regional spin-offs, and supply chain realignments typically invites operational risk. However, International Paper has utilized its deeply embedded ethical frameworks to ensure that its transformation journey does not compromise its core values of safety, trust, and excellence.
Ethisphere evaluated International Paper across over 240 data-driven variables mapping out their corporate behavior, from third-party risk management to environmental impact. According to corporate leadership and Ethisphere’s framework, the nomination was secured through several key pillars:
1. The "Speak UP!" Platform: True accountability requires psychological safety. International Paper utilizes a highly transparent "Speak UP!" system designed for employees, suppliers, and third parties to report ethical violations or raise concerns safely. Backed by a strict zero-retaliation policy, the helpline is available 24/7, fostering a culture where potential risks are identified and addressed internally before they can escalate.
2. A Living Code of Conduct: Rather than keeping their rules hidden in a legal binder to be dusted off during annual compliance orientations, the company treats its Code of Conduct as a "living" document. The organization implements this code as a daily navigating compass for all workplace actions, ensuring that employees at every level have a clear framework for navigating complex ethical challenges on the job.
3. Corporate Value Alignment: Executive tone at the top is a critical metric for Ethisphere. Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary Joseph Saab publicly emphasized that the award validates their structured policies, which directly force decision-making to center around fundamental human rights.
"Our success is rooted in responsible decision-making and actions," Saab noted following the announcement. "Our commitment to ethics helps to foster dignity, respect, openness, and accountability, and our policies and processes reinforce these values."
Ethisphere's multi-year tracking data, known as the Ethics Premium, indicates that publicly traded companies prioritizing structural integrity consistently outperform broad global financial benchmarks. Ethics is not just a moral imperative; it is a profound business advantage.
Because we believe in rewarding and amplifying organizations that model these exact principles, our parallel governance network has directly reached out to International Paper’s leadership to formally nominate them for our prestigious Peace Seal credential: https://pledge4peace.org/peace-seal/company/international-paper-company-e600a1
